It’s only 54 days until the June 21st Democratic primary in DC! We’re continuing to talk to neighbors every day and build support across all 8 Wards. We are a truly people-powered campaign — and it’s with the support of our friends and neighbors that we are able to knock on doors across DC and talk to neighbors about Erin for DC Council Chairwoman. This campaign continues to set the standard in terms of concrete, innovative, and meaningful policy proposals that will improve government accountability and build a brighter DC for everyone.

• My DC Council Accountability Plan is the first-ever plan of its kind for a more modern, ethical, and accountable DC Council. A Council that operates at the highest levels is serving DC residents as best it can on every single issue.
• My Safe Housing Action Plan includes tangible proposals for how we move past years of inaction for safer housing that can help us serve and protect the many residents living in unsafe and unhealthy housing.
• My Plan for Public Education as a Right tackles many of the challenges facing DC schools — making sure every student has the resources they need to succeed, empowering the DC Council to conduct oversight to ensure smart spending, and proposing bold new ideas to challenge conversations about education that continue to move in circles.
• And my Safe Streets Infrastructure and Public Transportation Plan includes proposals to deliver safety, accessibility, and amenities to all of our neighborhoods.

In addition, I know how critical environmental justice and sustainability is for the future we are building for our children. These issues are woven into all my other work, and I’m focused on the need for more accountability in the siting and concentration of industrial land in underserved communities. That’s why I have proposed an Office of Environmental Justice & Sustainability (built on the model of the recent Office of Racial Equity) to review all government action for a holistic, coordinated approach to environmental justice and sustainability.

The contrast between the current Council Chair and myself is seen in our policy proposals and responses. For example, we both answered questionnaires from Friends of the DC Streetcar and the Committee of 100 on the Federal City. One thing that has always characterized my leadership is thoughtful, thorough decisionmaking with care and concern, and I will continue that in office. Even if we disagree on an issue, you will know where I stand and why I believe what I believe and know I considered all the facts before arriving at a conclusion based on both data and values.

They join DC for Democracy, Jews United for Justice Campaign Fund, DC Working Families Party, the Washington Teachers’ Union, and DC Women in Politics.
