I’m Proud to be the Candidate for DC Teachers, Students, and Families!
It’s only 68 days until the June 21st Democratic primary in DC! We’re continuing to build support across all 8 Wards. The Washington Teachers’ Union, DC Women in Politics, and Our Revolution DC have endorsed Erin Palmer for DC Council Chairwoman. They join DC for Democracy, Jews United for Justice Campaign Fund, DC Working Families Party, and 70 current and former elected officials and candidates across all 8 Wards. Did you know — our campaign is endorsed by seven current or former DC Council candidates from two parties? That’s because our campaign is built around collaboration and consensus building in service of DC residents.
Together, we’re dedicated to uplifting children, women, and working families, and I’m grateful for support from these organizations and individuals. Over the past weeks, I’ve continued to support workers across DC. I joined nurses at Howard University Hospital on the picket line to support their demands for a fair contract and safe staffing to protect patients, as well as American University adjunct faculty, graduate students, and staff in support of the wages they deserve.
I recently released my Safe Streets Infrastructure and Public Transportation Plan, which includes proposals to deliver safety, accessibility, and amenities to all of our neighborhoods. I’ve led citywide efforts to improve sidewalks, fight for better transit, create sustainable communities, build safer streets, and end government corruption. My Plan prioritizes the lived experiences of more than one third of DC households who don’t own a car and live in historically underinvested communities, with some of the worst access to transit, fewest amenities, and highest risk of traffic violence. It includes concrete solutions to make installation of traffic safety infrastructure routine, deliver reliable and affordable public transportation for everyone, and serve all our neighborhoods with resources and amenities.

The forum ended early because protestors raised their voices to speak out on evictions, unaffordable rents, and unsafe living conditions. I was glad to hear from them, and long after others left I stayed and listened to their concerns. Later, they invited me into their homes so I could see firsthand their unsafe and unhealthy living conditions.
All DC residents deserve safe, stable, and secure housing. Too many families live in dangerous and unhealthy housing, often the result of years of property owner neglect. That’s why I have a Safe Housing Action Plan on how we move past years of inaction for safer housing that can help us serve and protect the many residents living in unsafe and unhealthy housing.
