It’s Official, I’m in the Race

It’s official! On Saturday, I announced my campaign to be the next Democratic nominee for DC Council Chairwoman. Friends, family, and neighbors gathered to hear what motivated me to take this leap.

As a mom, it’s my love for my family and families all over the District that drives me to make things better. We know many are struggling to keep their footing and that small hiccups can knock us off track. We also know our government often fails to deliver good quality services and supports equitably, and struggles to anticipate and respond to challenges.

I want to make sure we have a government accountable and responsive to us. All of us deserve high-quality, reliable services and supports. No matter where in DC we live, we should all have safe streets, clean neighborhoods, and good schools.

As a lawyer who has dedicated my career to ethics and accountability, the solution is clear: we have to vote in a leader who believes in accountability, strong ethics, and even stronger oversight. A new leader who will listen to better understand the reality of what people are living and who will put forward bold solutions to build a brighter future for all Washingtonians.
