Our Movement for a Brighter Future is Growing!

Our movement for a brighter DC continues to grow! Both Jews United for Justice Campaign Fund and DC Working Families Party have endorsed Erin Palmer for DC Council Chairwoman. They join DC for Democracy and nearly 70 current and former elected officials across all 8 wards.

Our campaign is setting the standard for showing how the DC Council can be more ethical and accountable and work better in service of DC residents. I recently released my Plan for Public Education as a Right, which tackles many of the challenges facing DC schools, including making sure every student has the resources they need to succeed, empowering the DC Council to conduct oversight to ensure smart spending, and proposing bold new ideas to challenge conversations about education that continue to move in circles.

I recently wrote about two issues where improved DC Council oversight are essential: (1) the DC Housing Authority’s repeated scandals and mismanagement and the need for new DC Council leadership to ensure safe, stable housing; and (2) DC’s failed no-bid sports betting contract, which abandoned procurement safeguards, cost taxpayers money, and failed to deliver on promised funding for violence prevention and early childhood education. My DC Council Accountability Plan will make sure the DC Council is ethical, accountable, and equipped to conduct meaningful oversight to prevent these types of failures.

Last weekend, I spoke at the Washington Interfaith Network election season action (I’m at 1:58:38) about their agenda, including affordable housing and Black home ownership, community safety, and climate sustainability and justice. I promised to lead with my values of housing as a right and bring new energy, vision, and compassion to the DC Council.

Thanks to the hard work of more than 60 volunteers like you, I will be on the ballot for the June 21st Democratic primary! Over the past weeks, we’ve collected signatures from more than 3,800 registered DC Democrats. I’m so grateful for our volunteers, including my family, friends, and neighbors, as well as DC for Democracy.

And we’re going to be celebrating you — our amazing volunteers and supporters!
