We’re running a different kind of campaign.
As we continue through the holiday season, my heart is filled with gratitude. The love of my family, the strength of our community, and your support energize me every day.
Watch: A thank you video to all of the people who’ve supported us so far.
Candidates recently filed their financial reports, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the support we’ve received so far. Here’s what we’ve accomplished:
- We received more than 500 donations from every corner of DC!
- Every single one of our donations is from an individual, with over 90% from DC residents.
- We had more than 30% more individual DC donors than my opponent in less than a third of the time, even though my opponent has been in elected office in DC since 1981.
- I’m proud to be taking 0 dollars from corporations and their PACs. Meanwhile, about 1 in 4 of my opponent’s donations — totaling tens of thousands of dollars — are from corporations.
Thanks to Keith Ivey, DC Geekery, for analyzing campaign contributions for this campaign.
Our campaign is different. I’m the only candidate for Council Chair who is participating in DC’s Fair Elections program, and I’m the first and only candidate to have qualified under the program. That means I’m focused on engaging with our neighbors, not raising large amounts of money from the wealthy and well connected.
I love being able to spend time talking with neighbors across DC. Whether it’s walking in Capitol View, biking in Brookland, or knocking on doors in Petworth, I’m not dependent on closed door events with lobbyists to get the funds I need for this election. Instead, I get to spend time meeting with and listening to our friends and neighbors and learning how DC government can work better for all of us. It’s a way to be in our communities — so I don’t have to wait for legislation to be introduced to know we need things like safe streets.
If you’d like to host an Erin on Your Block, Erin at Your Door, Meet and Greet, or another event, please send me an email at erin@erinfordc.com. You can stay up to date on all of our events by visiting my website.
I’m so grateful for all your help and support, and I wish you a joyful and restful holiday season.
With gratitude,
Erin Palmer, Democrat for DC Council Chairwoman
